My Services

Cutting and Piecing:

I know that some of you like to do the quilting, but do not necessarily like the cutting and piecing of the tops.  I can get those tops made for you to quilt.

 Hand Quilting:

The hand-quilting cost of heirloom (or whole cloth) quilts typically runs quite a bit higher than the hand-quilting cost of a patchwork quilts because the lines of stitching are usually much closer together which greatly increases the amount of time involved in completing the quilt. The average amount of time required to hand-quilt a patchwork quilt might take anywhere from 2-4 months while a "whole cloth" quilt might take 6 or more months to complete depending upon the detail of the design.

The following are rough estimates (starting prices)  of what you might expect to pay for hand quilted services

Quilt Restoration, Repair and Completion:

Yes, Edna’s Quilts will finish quilting a top that has already been started. $35.00 per hour plus materials for repair, restoration and/or completion of a quilt, quilt top, or project. Separate charges apply if restoration/repair/completion requires machine quilting, hand quilting, or binding.

Binding:

At Edna’s Quilts, I prefer to cut and make a French bias binding. You may provide the fabric if you wish; or I will use the fabric color that the quilt tells me it needs.  A French bias binding is made from strips cut 2 1/4 inches wide, folded double right side out, sewn by machine to the right side of the quilt, turned and hand stitched to the back of the quilt. This provides a strong reinforced edge that will wear well.

Quilt Training:

Beginner Quilting Class – class taught in 5 sessions, each session two hours long.  Covers color theory, fabric selection, cutting, piecing, sashing, quilting and binding a quilt. Each phase of the quilting process is explained. Patterns are provided to illustrate each technique. The final product is a 45”x45” lap quilt.  The beginner quilting class uses very basic forms of quilt patterns to teach three different geometric shapes.  ($175)

Intermediate Quilt Class – taught in 3 sessions, each two hours long. This class examines more complex quilting patterns. It builds upon the concepts taught in the beginner quilting class. The objective of this class is to create a quilt using multiple geometric shapes to create an optical illusion. The size of the final product for the class will vary depending upon the quilt blocks used to make the quilt top. The intention is to make a full size quilt top for this class. ($175)
